BOOK 8 - THE CLUE IN THE SHADOWS
Chapter 1 - The Bug Stops
Here
At dinner, Mrs. Peacock finds a bug in her
soup which turns out to be plastic. Later, a severed hand is found on the floor.
Someone is playing practical jokes!! WHO IS THE
PRACTICAL JOKER??
Chapter 2
- Read It And Weep
Mr. Boddy starts a book club in which
everyone reads three books each month and then talk about them and review them.
The subjects chosen by the six guests are Mysteries, Sci-Fi, Thrillers,
Westerns, Romance and a long, boring Biography. The subjects are written on
paper and put into a hat so that three topics for that month can be drawn.
Unfortunately, one of the topics is the Biography. The others plot to kill the
guest who chose it so they won't have to read the book!
WHO KILLED WHOM? WHERE? WITH WHAT??
Chapter 3
- The Guys in Disguise
Mrs. White finds a large trunk in the attic
containing Theatrical costumes that once belonged to Mr. Boddy's Uncle, N. E.
Boddy. The ladies claim that they could tell the gentlemen however well they
disguise themselves so Green, Plum and Mustard set about dressing up.
WHO ARE THE GUYS IN DISGUISE??
Chapter 4
- Your Chocolate or Your Life
Mr. Boddy buys the guests a large box of
Swiss Chocolates and tells them one contains the Gstaad Diamond which is rare
and very valuable. Soon, everyone is stealing chocolates from each other and
attacking everybody else with weapons. Soon two guests get the diamond but are
attacked by another guest who makes off with the Diamond.
WHO COMMITTED THE DOUBLE MURDER AND STOLE THE DIAMOND??
Chapter 5
- Something Fishy
Mr. Boddy has bought a very rare and
valuable fish who he has named Clarence. A guest steals Clarence by putting him
in a coffee cup. Soon the cup is passing hands until someone mistakes it for a
cockroach and kills it. WHO KILLED CLARENCE??
Chapter 6
- Who Bent The Bentley?
As it is such a sunny day, Mr. Boddy
suggests that everyone goes out for a drive in one of his fleet of cars. He
cannot go as he has to wait in for a call from his Brokers. He says they can
take any car except the Bentley. So, being the considerate guests they are, they
wait till Boddy is out of sight and take off in the Bentley. First they run out
of petrol and change driver, then they have a flat tyre and change driver again.
Eventually there is an accident and Mr. Boddy rushes to the scene to see who was
driving. WHO WAS DRIVING THE BENTLEY??
Chapter 7
- The Slumber-less Party
Everyone is snowed in at the
Mansion and the central heating has broken down so the guests spend the night
under canvas in the Ballroom in front of the fire. After a lot of changing tents
during the night, someone's snoring finally gets too much for one guest.
WHO KILLED WHOM??
Chapter 8
- Foul Ball
During a game of Croquet, a marble statue of
Mr. Boddy's Nephew, Bartholomew Benjamin Best-Boddy, is broken by a Croquet
Ball. Trying to find out what happened, Mr. Boddy gets four statements from the
players but Mrs. White said she saw the whole thing and only one statement was
the truth. WHO BROKE THE STATUE??
Chapter 9
- Time is Running Out
Mr. Boddy says that his guests are getting
tardy so he promises a prize for the guest who can arrive at his Mansion that
night bang on time at midnight. Everyone works out their exact travel time but
disasters befall them en route. WHO ARRIVED AT THE
STROKE OF MIDNIGHT??
Chapter
10 - The Clue in The Shadows
Everyone has arrived for the
weekend during a heavy rainfall. All their luggage is still in The Hall drying.
Mr. Boddy suggests a game of anagrams but as tempers start to flare he promises
a gold coin to anyone who can calm down. He places six gold coins in a box.
Suddenly, the roof collapses in the Hall and all the guests rush out to save
their luggage, but one returns to the Library to steal the gold coins.
WHO KILLED BODDY? WITH WHAT? WHERE??
