CLICK ON THE THUMBNAILS TO OPEN THE LARGER PICTURE
At last!!! In 1998 a decent CLUEDO you could play alone. On loading the disc, the following screen appears showing the characters.
I'm sure you can guess the characters but from left to right - Reverend Green (who seems to take a very unecclesiastical interest in Miss Scarlet's cleavage!!), Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Professor Plum & Mrs. Peacock.
You can play with a minimum of three characters, yourself and two computer players. It is possible to play with a friend and the computer but it is a pain having to keep turning away from the screen when your friend is making an accusation.
There are two ways to move.
1) Normal die roll.
2) A much better way and the way I always play. Each player on his/her turn can move up to nine squares. However, making an accusation takes up three moves, as does moving through a secret passage and making a final accusation. So, for example, a player could move from the Ballroom to the Conservatory (4 moves) and make an accusation (3 moves) but could not then make a final accusation because there are only two moves left and an accusation takes three.
There is a preference menu that you can set at any time. You can give the mansion rooms walls or translucency. You can set the auto notes feature which marks your sheet when a card is shown to you. You can have the Butler voice on or off. Best to have it on. He tells you who's move it is and if your accusation has been disproved or not. There are also suggested movies. When a player makes a suggestion a brief movie will play showing the character and weapon suggested as if in the process of murder. Watch out for Mrs. White with the Rope!!! Hilarious! And Mrs. Peacock with the Dagger....oooh you can feel it go in! Finally on this menu, you can make your characters move instantly to their desired location or you can watch them walk. At first I always had the walk animations and suggested movies activated, but after seeing them so many times I deselected the options and it sped up the game considerably.
At the end of the game, whoever wins, the guilty party is shown in jail and the door slamming on them.
I have played this game endlessly and never tire of it, although I wish Mrs. White wasn't the murderer so often. She's always been my least favourite character. Ah well!!
EXTRA!!!
Well I'm Blowed!!! I've played this game on and
off for about five years and I decided to buy an American version so I could
have a change and play with Mr. Green, The Wrench and The Knife instead of the
English version. The game duly arrived and while setting it up on the computer I
inadvertently discovered that by installing as English US instead of English UK
I had both versions of the game on the same CD. So I had two CDs which both
played CLUEDO & CLUE!!! Luckily, I had a friend who wanted to learn how to play
CLUEDO so I gave him the second disc - so it has gone to a good home. Since
then, I have also found out that by careful installation you can play it in
German, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, French and Spanish!!! So there you have it
- eight
games for the price of one!!!!! Bargain!
Here are the characters, weapons and rooms from each version!
