This one is rather an oddity. When I first had the game sent to me, instead of the "birds eye view of the rooms" board, it contained the 1963 "players perspective" board. At first I thought the wrong board had been delivered to me until I noticed that the front cover design of this box was actually reprinted on the outside of the board so it definitely belonged to this game.
So maybe somebody out there knows. Did they change the board before changing the game design?? I would like to know.
From the first published CLUE to the 1963 version the suspect characters were very similar to the English equivalent.
The playing pieces were wooden and the weapons silver. Although the set I have looks like the Rope and Piping have been lost and replaced as the Piping looks just like a thin strip of metal and the Rope is plastic. I'm not sure when the Rope became plastic but think it was more likely to be a piece of string in the 50s.
The Room Cards have the birds eye view design which belong to the earlier board which can be seen on the CLUE 1949 Reproduction page.
Below are the original rules and solution cards envelope. The pictures at the top of the rules are reproduced on the inner box. Another example of this can be seen more closely on the CLUE 1963 page.
Nice version but better was to come!
