These books are very similar to the English Detect-It-Yourself Mystery Books released in 1991 - but there are loads more of them! Each book contains ten mini mysteries to solve (Except Book 1 which has thirteen). Yes, I know it is aimed at teenagers, but the mysteries, although fairly simple, do sometimes give you cause to go back and re read the story to check the clues. At the end of each story, too, there is a Detective Notes sheet that you can use to record the information and discover the guilty party. Each chapter is a complete story and at the end of each there is a question for which you must find the answer e.g. Who Killed Mr. Boddy, Whom Did Mrs. White Stab, Who Started The Fire etc. Mr. Boddy is killed in the last chapter of every book but is alive and well in the introduction of the next book - skilfully explaining how he wasn't really dead at the end of the last book and how he escaped. The same is also true of any of the other main characters killed in any of the stories and it is explained in the solution at the end of the story as to how they escaped.
It is not just crimes that need to be solved. Sometimes you get a contest where you must discover who won a Pie Eating Contest or a Balloon Race. There are all kinds of mysteries and puzzles to be solved. If you click on the book covers below they will open up to a larger picture. If you click on the book title, it will take you to another page which lists the chapters of that particular book, a brief outline of each story and the puzzle or mystery you must solve as written in the book.
After a while you get to know the characters well. Colonel Mustard continually challenging people to a duel, Mrs. Peacock always saying how rude everything is, Mrs. White smiling at everybody and then scowling at them behind their backs, Professor Plum wandering around in a complete fog, stealing things and then forgetting why...They're a real motley bunch and I've grown to love them all!! And I wouldn't trust any of them an inch!!!!! Great Fun!!!!!

Unfortunately, there, the series came to a stop. On a final note, the back cover of books 1 - 4 featured the characters from the 1986 CLUE game and from 5 - 18 featured the 1992 version.
