PUT YOURSELF IN THE GAME (2005)
An odd item released in 2005 in which you could personalise your favourite MB & PARKER games - and CLUEDO just happened to be one of them. Complete with cheesy family enjoying the games on the lid of the box and retailing for about £14.99, I decided not to bother as the CLUEDO link was a bit tenuous but while out shopping at my local Pound Shop, I found the game for the aforementioned £1 so I thought - "What The Hell..."!!
You can personalise CLUEDO, MONOPOLY, SUBBUTEO, GUESS WHO, OPERATION, TWISTER & there is also a unique version of FRUSTRATION. More on that later.
The CLUEDO section is actually very basic. You are given six movers into which you can either put a passport sized photo of yourself and other members of your family...
...or you can use the specially supplied peel off labels in which you can scan in pics from your computer, print them off and stick them into the movers!
And that, basically is the CLUEDO involvement over. There are similar sheets for the other games. In MONOPOLY you can customise 12 spaces and property cards so you can have your old dingy street alongside the likes of Mayfair & Oxford Street. In SUBBUTEO you can put faces onto your little footie characters - SAD!! :)) GUESS WHO & OPERATION are just faces you can stick in place so that in OPERATION you can operate on a member of your own family - SCARY!! And TWISTER - Well, instead of placing your hand and foot on the circles you can choose any other body parts!!!! The mind boggles - but it could be fun at the RIGHT party!!! :)) This box even comes with a dice in which you can put pictures of you and your family. They thought of everything!!
The game box completes itself with a Family Version of FRUSTRATION - basically LUDO with a fancy name.
In this version, as well as having to get all your four pieces round the board and home, you have some extra squares. If you land on the purple quiz circle you are asked a question from the purple set of cards
Each question leaves a blank for the name of the player involved. For example, Paul lands on a purple circle. The player to the left, John, reads out a question about another player, Jenny. John asks "What game does Jenny like best - Twister, Monopoly or Guess Who?" Jenny has to point to the answer on the card she prefers and Paul has to guess which she chose. If Paul guesses right he moves forward the number of spaces indicated on the card, if not he goes back the designated number of squares. This same ritual happens with the orange Gamble Cards, except you dont know if you will have to move forward or back when you answer. It's all a bit confusing but the main problem with this game box is that for most of the game and printing instructions you have to go online.
It's not a bad set of stuff but not worth £14.99 - if you want one head to your local £1 store without delay!!
