LIVE CLUEDO GAME 1 - SUNDAY 8TH MAY 2005

On Sunday 8th May, four of us decided to have a trial run of the game. Graeme & Jo (Col. Mustard & Miss Scarlett) weren't available so we were left with Mrs. White (Vicki), Reverend Green (Mat), Mrs. Peacock (ME!) and Professor Plum (Martin). Luckily, Vicki's sister Becky was around and she fancied a go, so she became Miss Scarlet for the night and all cards mentioning Colonel Mustard were removed from play.
One INNOCENT card was removed from play and the other five were dealt out. I was an innocent party.
We decided that we would all go out one by one in alphabetical order for the placing of the weapons and the blocks. We also decided to play with only 8 rooms. As it was at night, the front and back garden were excluded, we were playing in the Lounge so that was out and we decided the Toilet was too small to hide anything so all references to these four rooms was removed. The weapons, blocks and tags were placed in a plastic bag inside a large holdall and placed in the Porch.
Becky went off but was back in about a minute and a half, so we all guessed she wasn't the murderer as she hadn't been long enough to hide weapons. Then the rest of us went one at a time and took about 7/8 minutes each so no one knew who was the murderer. So far, so good.
The game got well under way and seemed to go okay. We searched rooms, found weapons, asked questions, blocked searches and so on. It was about 45 minutes into the game that I had to search the Porch. Now, Mat's Porch is remarkably small and I searched every conceivable place and found nothing. Now, the rules categorically state that there must be one item in every room. With 8 rooms being used there should have been 1 weapon each in 6 rooms, 1 block each in 2 rooms and 4 rooms should have had 1 weapon and 1 block. Well, I couldn't find anything in the Porch and earlier in the game, 3 people had searched the Dining Room and found nothing so I checked the brown holdall that had held the weapons and found 5 blocks still sitting there. The murderer had taken all 6 weapons, tag number 4 and block number 4 but had failed to realise the other 5 blocks had to be hidden too as red herrings. This narrowed the field down a bit. Becky hadn't been the murderer, myself, Mat & Vicki knew the rules backwards so that left Martin!! (Professor Plum). When I returned to the Lounge I told the others what I had found so that they knew there were 5 blocks that wouldn't be found.
Still, we carried on because we still didn't know the murder weapon or room. Any doubt that Mrs. White was the murderer was confirmed when Vicki said she was really tired and had to get up for work the next day so she handed in her "Innocent" card and Mrs. White retired from the game. The 4 of us carried on and eventually the Spanner was found in the Hall with the number 4 tag round it and the number 4 block was discovered in the Kitchen. Reverend Green (Mat) made a final accusation.
It was Professor Plum with the Spanner in the Kitchen!! And, indeed it was.
So, apart from a couple of cock-ups, the game did get to its conclusion and everyone said how much they had enjoyed it.

Here's to a cock-up free game 2!!
