CLUE MASTER DETECTIVE (1988)

Still one of the most sought after versions of CLUE. Instead of the usual 324 possible solutions there are now a staggering 960. With ten suspects, eight weapons and twelve rooms it IS indeed like Dr. Black once said in a TV commercial "It's Different Every Time I Get Murdered!!"

The four new suspects joining the six regulars are Miss Peach, Sgt. Grey, Mme Rose and M. Brunette. Miss Peach could almost be classed as the seventh regular having appeared in this version, 2000's Passport to Murder, 1986's Super Cluedo Challenge and more recently as a sleuth in the 2003 CLUEDO SFX.

The new board for this version shows the Mansion plus various locations in the surrounding garden. Gone are the Hall, Lounge, Ballroom and Study.

On the game board there are small magnifying glass designs dotted about. Landing on, or passing over one of these squares means you can look at a card held by another player.

There are some slightly different movements  from the original CLUEDO. One is the ability to pass through a room as one square and continue your move. The other is the fact that if a player is blocking your way you can jump over that player counting that square as one move.

There are also two extra weapons in this version. The poison, which has become an almost familiar "extra" weapon now, and The Horseshoe, new at the time but now a weapon in CLUEDO SFX.

The weapons themselves are one again a splendid set with a dark brass finish.

This is probably the best spin off of them all. More solutions, bigger board and just an all round great version.

One niggle???  I'm afraid there has to be one. The playing pieces are fine but I CANNOT distinguish between Mrs. Peacock and Mr. Green or Mme Rose and Miss Peach. With ten coloured pawns the Peacock and Green pawns should have been lighter. Under a dim light dark blue is too similar to dark green. Mme Rose should have been a deeper red but then there may have been a difficulty telling her and Miss Scarlet apart. But it is only one small point and I tend to play the game with old pawns to help my failing eyesight :)
