Once again, an undated European CLUEDO but judging by the picture on the box, it looks to be the 1960's. Once again, can anyone enlighten me???
The cover of this is obviously taken from the English 1949 Small Red Box edition but with Sherlock Holmes replaced by Victor Meldrew - Well, a bloke in a cloth cap anyway!! Unlike the English version, however, the board did not come separately with this edition but with a quad fold board fitted inside.
The inside of the box has four compartments in which the pieces are stored.
The suspects are the old sixties favourites but with different faces - Mrs. White (or Frau Weiss) has the longest chin ever seen in CLUEDO!!!
The weapons and room cards are a standard sixties set.
However, the backs of the cards are different in that there is no CLUEDO design on the back, they are just plain and look like a normal deck of cards. First and only time this has happened?? Who knows - enlightenment anybody??
The only other differences here are the weapons. Normally, I complain about the plastic rope on some later sets. In this set, the rope is the only non plastic piece. Again, I don't recall ever seeing plastic weapons before.
Finally, the other difference. I could not put my finger on it at once but the playing pieces didn't ring true. It was only when I was taking the picture below that I realised that there was no white playing piece and that the Frau Weiss character played with a black wooden token.
So, there you are. Another slightly different and interesting European version of CLUEDO.
