CLUEDO SWISS VERSION (circa 1972)

CLICK ON THE THUMBNAILS TO OPEN THE LARGER PICTURE

This is a very unusual and delightful version of CLUEDO, having similarities but quite a few subtle differences from the normal game. Unfortunately, it is not dated except for a copyright of 1965/1972 at the bottom of the rule book so have placed it circa 1972 which I think is fairly accurate!

For this version, we are introduced to some new characters. Each card shows a black and white photo of the suspect with the name in German (at the top) and French (at the bottom). The blue character is now male and the yellow character is female. Miss Scarlet is now Evelyne Rose, Colonel Mustard is Madame Curry, Mrs. White is Fraulein Weiss, Reverend (Mr.) Green is now Professor Verde, Mrs. Peacock is Capitano Azzurro and Professor Plum has gone completely to be replaced by Dr. Dunkel which has a grey heading.

UP

The six weapons are as normal but the cards have no text on them at all.

The room cards, like the suspect cards, have the names in German and then French printed on them and the design is similar to the original CLUEDO cards. Reproduced below in German and then French.

UP

Unfortunately, the rules are only given in German & French. Now, of course, I know the rules to CLUEDO backwards but the back pages of the rule books show a lot of writing and cross referencing on them but am not quite sure of the point of this as normal scoring seems to be perfectly reasonable in this version. (NB!! Duh!! It's taken me all this time to realise there is no cross referencing, one side is in German the other is in French!! Idiot!!)

UP

Another few differences are on the playing board.

UP

Firstly, the squares seem a bit larger and, unlike all other version, a roll of six on the first move will get you into a room. Because of this, moving round the board seems a lot faster.

Also, the playing pieces in this game are sleuths rather than the six characters, hence all the staring squares are the same colour. The six playing pieces are red, yellow, green, blue, purple & black (no White). This actually makes a lot of sense and saves characters suggesting themselves as murderers throughout the game. It also stops you being dragged all over the board as part of an suggestion when you are desperately trying to get to a room to make your own suggestion.

UP

When you DO make a suggestion, there are circular wooden playing pieces featuring the six suspects and these are moved from room to room like the weapons.

This is a really nice version of the game with some very interesting ideas put forward. Recommended!
